Mulagu Varutha Puli (Chilly-Tamarind Curry)

Mulagu Varutha Puli, is a famous and very tasty curry of Palakkad, Kerala, India.  May be, this one is making only in Palakkad.
It is very easy to make with a less ingredients and time.  If you tried once, you will love the taste and
will make again and again.
We can see now how to make this tasty (healthy too) curry.

Ingredients :


Shallots / Onion
50 g.
Green chillies
6-8 nos.
Tamarind Pulp
2 tea spoon or
Tamarind
A lemon size
Coconut Oil
1 table spoon
Mustard Seeds
1 tea spoon
Water
2 Cups
Curry Leaves & Salt
As required







Method :

  • Remove the skin and cut the shallots to 2 or 4 pieces. ( If you are using the onion,               lengthwise, make very thin cuts)
  • Slit the chillies, lengthwise.
  • In a wok/kadai, put the oil, heat and add mustard seeds, shallots / onion, chillies.
  • Saute for 5 minutes, in a low flame.
  • Use 1 cup of warm water to extract the pulp from the tamarind ( or you can use the "sukushealthyntasty's" Ready to use Tamarind Paste).
  • Add the tamarind paste to the shallots & chilli along with salt and the balance 1 cup of water and boil in a medium flame for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from the fire.  Add the curry leaves.
  • The Healthy & Tasty curry is ready to use within 15 to 20 minutes.
